Terms and Conditions of Trade
These are the terms on which we provide our repair, servicing and sales services. We've written them in plain English — they're here to protect both of us and make sure everyone knows where they stand. If anything's unclear, please just ask.
1. About us
The Common Cyclist Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales. Our trading address is 1 Bellevue Road, Wandsworth, London, SW17 7EG. You can contact us at service@thecommoncyclist.com.
2. Our services
We provide bicycle repair and servicing for commuter bikes, hybrid bikes, children's bikes and lower-to-mid-range road bikes. We are also an accredited Microscooter repair partner.
For electric bikes, cargo bikes and high-end performance bikes, we can carry out a range of everyday jobs — puncture repairs, chain replacements, brake disc work and other standard fixes. What we won’t take on is work requiring specialist components or manufacturer-level diagnostics, which means full servicing of these bike types is outside our scope. If you’re not sure whether we can help with your specific job, just ask — we’ll always be honest with you.
3. Estimates and pricing
All prices listed on our website are for labour only. Any spare parts required will be added to your final bill and always agreed with you first.
We will give you an estimate of the likely cost when you drop your bike off. Please note:
An estimate is not a fixed quote. Once we have cleaned or inspected the bike more thoroughly, the final cost may change.
If the work is likely to cost more than the original estimate, we will always contact you before carrying out any additional work.
We will never do work beyond what was agreed without your authorisation.
4. Spare parts
We keep a stock of commonly needed parts at the kiosk: inner tubes, brake pads, brake blocks, cables and everyday consumables. Where a less common or specialist part is needed, we'll order it in.
We will always confirm the cost and your agreement before ordering or fitting any part. Nothing gets fitted without your say-so.
5. Bookings and payment
Services can be booked online through our website. Full payment is taken at the time of booking to secure your slot.
If you cancel with more than 24 hours’ notice, you will receive a full refund.
If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, you will receive a refund less a £10 administration fee. This covers the time and diary slot we have reserved for you.
If you do not show up for your appointment and have not contacted us to cancel, no refund will be issued. Because your slot is booked exclusively for you, we are unlikely to be able to fill it at short notice, and the full payment reflects the time and resource we have committed to your visit.
For services, we recommend booking online in advance to secure your slot. For smaller repairs and one-off jobs, walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to our service schedule on the day. Walk-in jobs are paid on collection.
Booking online guarantees your slot and lets us prepare properly for your visit.
6. Drop-off, turnaround and collection
Because we are a kiosk with limited on-site storage, we strongly prefer same-day collection — and for most repairs this is achievable.
Puncture repairs and minor fixes are typically completed the same day.
Full servicing dropped off in the morning is usually ready the same day or the following day.
We will contact you as soon as your bike is ready for collection.
We ask that you collect your bike promptly once we’ve notified you. As a small outdoor kiosk, our storage space is very limited — we can hold a bike for up to 2 days after notifying you it’s ready, after which we reserve the right to apply a storage charge of £10 per day. We’ll always remind you before any charge applies.
We are not liable for loss or damage to personal accessories (locks, bags, lights) left on the bike during servicing. Please remove these before dropping off.
7. Payment
We accept:
Cash at the kiosk
Online card payment via our booking system at the time of booking
Card payment at the kiosk on collection
For booked services, full payment is taken online at the time of booking. Walk-in repairs are paid in full on collection — cash or card at the kiosk.
Title in any parts fitted to your bike remains with us until full payment has been received.
8. Our liability
We take care of every bike left with us. However:
We are not liable for pre-existing faults or damage that existed before the repair. We will point these out to you when we find them.
Our liability for any damage caused during a repair is limited to rectifying that specific damage.
We are not liable for any indirect losses — for example, costs you incur because your bike was unavailable.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for any other matter where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. Your responsibility
By leaving your bike with us, you confirm that:
You are the legal owner of the bike, or have the owner's permission to have it repaired.
You will collect the bike promptly once notified.
10. Your consumer rights
These terms do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If a repair is not carried out with reasonable care and skill, you have the right to ask us to put it right at no additional charge, or to receive an appropriate reduction in price.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
